Phones/Smart Devices Guidelines

To help our students thrive, we maintain a phone free environment that maximises classroom focus, boosts academic performance and reduces digital distractions. Additionally, this provides a much needed mental break from social media, encourages face- to-face friendships and is in line with the NSW Department of Education’s mandatory mobile phone procedure.

Key Procedure Requirements
Mandatory Locker Use: Every student is required to register and secure a school locker to store their personal phones/smart devices
"Bell to Bell" Storage: Mobile phones must be turned off and placed inside the student's assigned locker before the morning bell and must remain there for the entirety of the school day (including recess and lunch).
Phones/smart devices are not permitted to be kept in pockets, school bags, or pencil cases during school hours.

BCCS Bus Travel Procedure
Based on the school's student behaviour policy, mobile phone rules apply while students are travelling on the BCCS bus to and from school:
Mobile phones must remain inside the student's school bag for the duration of the bus trip.
Students are permitted to use headphones to listen to music, provided the device remains out of sight inside their bag and the volume does not disrupt the driver or other passengers. They are not to share headphones with others.

Consequences for Procedure Breaches
If a student is found with a mobile phone on their person during school hours, or violates the bus rules, the following measures will apply:

1st Offence (Confiscation): The phone will be confiscated by staff and securely stored in the front office. The student may collect their phone at the end of the school day after the final bell and parents will be notified by SMS.

2nd Offence (Parent Collection): The phone will be confiscated and stored in the front office. A parent or guardian will be notified and must physically come to the school office to collect the device. It will not be re-issued to the student.

3rd Offence (Suspension): Continued refusal to follow the school phone procedure represents a serious breach of the School Code of Conduct. A third offence will result in an immediate external school suspension.

Continued Non-Compliance (Enrolment Review): If a student continues to breach the phone procedure following their suspension, a formal enrolment review process will be initiated, which may jeopardise their ongoing enrolment at the school.

Emergency Contact Information
We understand that parents may occasionally need to reach their children during the day. If there is an urgent matter or family emergency, please call the school front office directly. Our administrative staff will ensure a message is delivered to your child immediately. If a child feels they need to contact home, they can go to the front office to make contact with the parents.
